How to mute or turn off notes on Instagram?
Instagram notes are sticky notes visible on your profile in the Chat section. It has a limit of 80 characters. Notes are left for 24 hours, and you can replace your note whenever you want.
There’s no way to turn off notes altogether from Settings. But you can get rid of notes from individual profiles in some ways.
For example, you won’t see notes using Instagram lite or Instagram PC. Also, notes aren’t rolled out on every platform or version of the Instagram app. It’s only available on the latest version of Instagram.
How to Mute or Turn Off Instagram Notes
Mute Notes From Chat
- Launch the Instagram app on your device.
- Tap on the Chat icon at the top right corner.
- Tap and hold the profile picture.
- Tap on Mute notes.
Mute Notes From Profile
You can visit individual profiles and mute their notes, so you can’t see any notes in the Chat section. Here’s how:

- Open the Instagram app on your smartphone.
- Go to any friend’s profile whose notes bother you.
- Click on Following. A menu will appear on your screen.
- Tap on Mute and toggle on Notes.
Use Instagram on a PC
You can use Instagram on a web browser or install the Instagram app from Windows Store. Open Instagram on a web browser and click the Messages icon from the left sidebar. Go to any chat or visit any profile. You won’t find Notes. You can’t read any reply to your note; it will say, “Use the latest version of the Instagram app to see this type of message.”
Use Instagram Lite
There are two versions of Instagram on the Play Store/App Store. One is Instagram; another is Instagram lite. It’s a lightweight app with minimum features for those who don’t have a strong internet connection or storage on their device.
The notes feature is not available on Instagram lite. So, if you use Instagram lite, you won’t see any notes.
Use Older Version of Instagram
The latest versions of Instagram apps have this Notes feature. But older versions don’t have this feature. If you are an Android user, you can download and install an older version of Instagram on your device.

No, your note is shared with those followers you follow. You can also change the audience to Close Friends. You can add anyone to your Close Friends circle by visiting their profile.
Nobody can read your notes by visiting your profile. It’s only available in the Chat section.
