How to delete a Reddit account?

You can use Reddit on any device as they have mobile apps and web versions for computers. But if you want to get rid of your Reddit account, you must use the web version of Reddit. Mobile apps don’t have the option to delete your account. 

Reddit has no feature to temporarily deactivate your account, unlike other social media apps. As well as the deletion process is instant; there’s no waiting time to reconsider your decision.

What happens when you delete your account?

Username: As Reddit doesn’t allow you to change your username, you can’t change your username and re-use your username in the future. When you press the Delete button, your username is gone forever with your account.

Profile: Your profile also disappears. No one can find your profile by searching or direct URL. Your profile link will be detached from all of your Reddit activities. 

Content: Your posts and comments will remain on Reddit unless you manually delete them before deleting your account. But your profile link or username will be detached from your content. So, your posts and comments will show [deleted] as a username and no link to your profile. 

How to delete your posts and comments before deleting your account?

Delete your Reddit posts 

Web

1. Open the Reddit website in a browser.
2. Click on your avatar from the top right corner and go to Profile.
3. Switch to the Posts tab.
4. Click on the … below any post and click on Delete.
5. A pop-up will appear on the screen; click on Delete post.

App

1. Open the Reddit app on your device.
2. Tap on the profile picture at the top right corner and click on My profile.
3. You will be on the Posts tab by default. Click on the horizontal three-dot icon beside the post title.
4. Click Delete post from the menu, then Yes, Delete again from the pop-up.

Delete your Reddit comments

Web 

1. Visit Reddit and go to your profile.
2. Switch to the Comments tab.
3. Click on the … below any comment.
4. Click on Delete.
5. On the pop-up, click on Delete.

Mobile

1. Open the Reddit app and tap on your avatar at the top right corner.
2. Go to My profile and switch to the Comments tab.
3. Tap on the comment you want to delete.
4. Click on the horizontal three-dot icon below your comment and click on Delete.
5. Again click on Delete on the pop-up. 

How to delete a Reddit account?

1. Open a web browser on your computer and visit the Reddit website.
2. Click on your avatar from the top right corner and go to User Settings.
3. Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on DELETE ACCOUNT.
4. Enter your username and password, and select I understand that deleted accounts aren’t recoverable.
5. Enter leaving reasons (optional), then click the Delete button.

Delete Reddit Account on iPhone/Android

1. Open a browser such as Chrome or Safari on your device.
2. Visit Reddit.com and log in to your account.
3. Click on the hamburger menu at the top right corner.
4. Scroll down and click on Settings; it’ll expand the options.
5. Click on Account Settings. Scroll down to the bottom of that page and click on Delete Account.
6. Enter your Reddit username and password, and then acknowledge the action.
7. Click on Delete. 

It’s a one-way process, so you won’t be able to restore your account or modify your posts/comments once the account is deleted. However, you can create a new Reddit account using the same email.
