How to browse Reddit anonymously?

Generally, Reddit keeps the history of your search query and visited posts. It’s to help you find things faster in the future. But, sometimes, you just want to scroll through Reddit without keeping any history. The best way to do so is to use Reddit anonymously. 

Now the approach of using Reddit anonymously is different on mobile and computer because the Reddit website doesn’t have an anonymous mode like the mobile app. This guide will teach you how to browse Reddit without keeping logs. 

What is the anonymous mode on Reddit?

Anonymous mode is a read-only version of Reddit. In this mode, you can search and visit anything you want, but there will be no history as no account or tracking is associated. But you can’t upvote or comment since you will not be logged into an account. 

If you want to comment or upvote, you need an account. Since you will use an account, all activity will be saved on your profile, which is not anonymous at all. 

On Anonymous mode on the Reddit app, it doesn’t keep your activity or track you at all. It’s like the incognito mode of a browser but inside the app. You can switch to incognito mode even if logged in to an account on the Reddit app. 

Anonymous browsing won’t track your personal behavior and show you personalized recommendations or notifications. 

Note: Anonymous mode and browsing the Reddit app without an account differ. Normally, using Reddit without an account tracks the search and visits. 

How to use Anonymous mode on the Reddit app

1. Open the Reddit app on your device. 
2. Tap on your profile picture at the top right corner. 
3. Tap on your username.
4. Then tap on Anonymous browsing.
5. Tap on the default avatar at the top right corner to enable NSFW content on Anynomus mode. 
6. Tap on Leave Anonymous Browsing if you want to go back to normal Reddit. 

How to use Reddit anonymously on a computer?

As I said earlier, Reddit without an account differs from anonymous browsing. You need to use incognito mode in a web browser. Incognito mode doesn’t save cookies or track your activity. Everything erases when you close the incognito tab.

1. Open a web browser on your computer, such as Google Chrome.
2. Click on the menu icon at the top right corner and click on New Incognito Window.
3. In the address bar, type Reddit.com and press Enter.
4. Start using the search bar to find your favorite subreddits or posts and read them.

Anonymous Browsing vs Incognito Mode

There’s a slight difference between the Reddit app’s anonymous browsing and the browser’s incognito mode. Because on Anonymous browsing, you can enable NSFW content and disable Safe browsing mode, but you can’t view NSFW content or subreddit in incognito mode. You must sign in to your account to access NSFW content.
